lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:32:54 PM)
How long have your kids been in school for the this school year?
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:33:02 PM)
I shouldn't be complaining, this is one of the few nights that I could get into the chat.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:33:12 PM)
We started Aug. 28
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:33:14 PM)

Oh wow, just pulled this screen down to make it bigger and made that screen come open with names.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:34:28 PM)
Hi Steve Z
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:34:31 PM)
Do you think that more parents will find us as the year progresses and more kids are identified?
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:34:37 PM)
hi Steve
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 8:34:54 PM)
He lynne and carol
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:34:55 PM)
I told 3 people about it since the summer so hopefully they will join.
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:35:06 PM)
I have told some also.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:35:13 PM)
hi STeve
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:35:16 PM)

lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:35:36 PM)

Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 8:35:42 PM)
hi debbie
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:35:59 PM)
lynne I believe so
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:36:16 PM)
How many kids do you have Steve? Which one )s) have CAPD?
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:36:41 PM)
Did I tell you about my son's test scores for last year Debbie?
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 8:37:12 PM)
lynne, I have two and my youngest, Savanna has CAP.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:37:17 PM)
Once I get the email list back up and running, I think thre will be more parents back in the chat also. The evening chats have been hard for me too since I work wednesday mornings at 4:30, but that will be chaning soon.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:37:30 PM)
lynne, I dont remember the scores
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:37:43 PM)
Wow, Debbie, glad those hours will be changing.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:38:02 PM)
Are you and Sarah feeling better now that the fall is here?
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:38:12 PM)
I will still be working the same hours..just different days
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:38:17 PM)
Yuck
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:38:59 PM)
Steve, Is this your first time in the chat?
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:39:12 PM)
Steve, how old is Savanna
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:39:16 PM)
Greg got a perfect score in Language, and one in math. The other 4 test he only missed one or 2. His stanines were all 8 and 7's. This is a kid they didn't hold much hope out for reading before 2nd grade.
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 8:39:36 PM)
Debbie, yes it is.
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 8:39:50 PM)
Carol, Savanna is 5.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:39:57 PM)
Lynne, that is fabulous!
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:40:03 PM)
He is now in 3rd grade and has made up the 2 year delay and has been removed from his speech classes.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:40:07 PM)
She's been tested for APD already?
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:40:12 PM)
Welcome to the chat then Steve! We are happy you found us
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:40:21 PM)
How long has she been identified.
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 8:40:31 PM)
Thanks for the welcome.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:41:02 PM)
Lynne, that's so great, the progress he's made.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:41:23 PM)
Carol, you asked about me and SArah, overall we are feeling much better. Sarah got a B on her science test and that's a major accomplishment for her! I was so proud of her
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:41:26 PM)
Greg was identified at 6. And we were told that was early. How wonderful your daughter (Steve) has been found so early
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:41:42 PM)
That is great, Debbie, so a better year, then?
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:42:11 PM)
I agree, Lynne, Krystina was 7 when finally tested although I had been complaining she was "deaf" since she was 2
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:42:27 PM)
The school psychologist is going to finish up testing on Thursday. It should be interesting to get the results.
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 8:42:36 PM)
lynne, we just found out yesterday. Her teacher let us know there was a problem, however, I do not think she knows what yet.
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:42:47 PM)
It took us 2 and 1/2 years for them to test Greg too.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:43:02 PM)
Steve may I ask where you arefrom? Im in Florida
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:43:21 PM)
We had been saying there was something wrong. Be thankful that they didn't try and cram ADD or the other down your throat..
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 8:43:26 PM)
I am in Topeka, Kansas
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:43:32 PM)
I got the ADD tag crammed!
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:43:50 PM)
Where are you from, Lynne? I'm in Mass.
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 8:44:05 PM)
They thought it was a hearing problem.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:44:29 PM)
That's right..did you see Dr Barber?
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:44:52 PM)
I had ADD, hearing loss, aspergers, autism and lastly, ADHD considered with ADD diagnosed and ritalin offered that I thankfully refused.
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:44:57 PM)
for 2 years they tried to tell us there was nothing wrong and that he was just ADD. I refused to believe it and give him meds. and I brought him in to the audiologist and the rest is history. His SCAN scores came out at 2% was all he could process in a classroom setting.
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 8:45:04 PM)
Yes it was, how did you know?
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:45:21 PM)
IM the person who get's the "About You" forms for the NCAPD>
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:45:29 PM)
I am here in Virginia.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:45:38 PM)
I read it a bit ago before you entered the chat.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:45:55 PM)
Did Dr Barber refer you to our website/
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:46:01 PM)
Funny how we all seem to go down the same route with diagnosis from doctors before we find the right one.
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 8:46:02 PM)
That was quick.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:46:19 PM)
I try to read them on a daily basis....=)
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:46:39 PM)
so true Carol. I think I was waiting for some validation that my assumptions were right.
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:47:10 PM)
Then when I saw him sinking, I knew they wait was over. I needed to trust my instincts
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:47:12 PM)
If I hadn't heard about APD, I would have taken the ritalin route no questions asked! SAD
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:47:13 PM)
It took me almost 4 years to find outwhat was wrong with sarah.....we knew at age 2 also that something was wrong....
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 8:47:17 PM)
Dr. Barber did provide me with the website and one other. This is new to us so we are just trying to find out how to help Savanna.
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:47:34 PM)
There are many out there who do.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:47:44 PM)
I know
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:48:04 PM)
what other website did Dr Barber refer you to? Do you mind if I ask?
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:48:20 PM)
Steve, have you had a chance to view the Auditory Simulation?
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:48:59 PM)
It's so important sometimes that parents do trust their instincts and follow through
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 8:49:02 PM)
www.scilearn.org/index.html I have not gone there yet.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:49:15 PM)
That's new to me.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:49:42 PM)
that's the website for Fast Forward Carol
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:50:01 PM)
Oh, that's why, I've been told that won't help very much
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 8:50:24 PM)
Debbie, I did go through it rather quickly.
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:50:36 PM)
How did the teacher know it was APD, Steve?
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:50:56 PM)
Sarah went through FFW a few years ago............to us it was helpful...but it's not neccessarily for every child
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:51:29 PM)
I didn't mean the program is not effective, but because she is mild APD the audiologist didn't think it would help her. Sorry if I was unclear
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 8:51:47 PM)
The teacher just let us know that she was not following instructions and asked us to get her hearing tested. Then we ended up with Dr. Barber.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:52:33 PM)
Steve, you were very lucky. We went about it all the wrong way because no one knew about APD until Krystie's first grade teacher.
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 8:53:14 PM)
Well, I had never heard of it.
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:53:53 PM)
I hope you plan on a nice gift for Christmas for this teacher:) My son had to endure 2 kindergarten teachers who yelled and blittled him in front of his friends/ students. And another who completely ignored him.
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:54:11 PM)
belittled
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:54:40 PM)
I did Lynne, for the first grade teacher. She even became a friend of mine. The other teachers thought she was just lazy.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:54:56 PM)
Steve, FFW is a very very intensive program
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:55:08 PM)
The one who ignored him also, took his Valentines out of his backpack and told him he didn't bring them for others and he was sitting at the desk not participating when I got there.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:55:29 PM)
Wow, very mean.
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:55:31 PM)
I flew. You can imagine!
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:55:39 PM)
I can!
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 8:55:50 PM)
That is terrible. Today we received a "shouting" letter basically begging us to help our child at home (which we have been).
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:56:00 PM)
She was trying to get back at me, I feel.
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:56:50 PM)
Steve, we now homeschool from the abuse and neglect or schools have offered my son here in Virginia.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:56:57 PM)
Steve, the people dealing with your daughter need to be educated. I supply each teacher with a small booklet about APD
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:57:02 PM)
I know Carol and Debbie know that.
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 8:57:39 PM)
That is a wonderful idea. But hold them accountable for reading it.
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 8:58:24 PM)
Home schooling was my first thought.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:58:25 PM)
This year I was blessed. She was more than willing to read about it and even borrowed my material from the conference. She says her school needs to be educated about this and I think she might pursue that
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 8:59:27 PM)
I hate to admit this, but homeschooling wouldn't work with me and Krystie because of our differing personalities.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 8:59:51 PM)
I feel like we are in the middle of alot of changes, the school seems to be cooperative this year after the summer events, but yet I'm waiting for the results of the new testing to see what their exact steps will be. Im hoping the new Florida guidelines will come into play
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:00:10 PM)
I work with her alot at home. That's enough for both of us.
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 9:00:18 PM)
Greg, after his 2nd year of kindergarten couldn't count past 29 or recognize half his alphabet. After 2 years of using an intense phonics based curriculm he reads on a 6th grade level. He is in 3rd grade this year.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:00:25 PM)
I hope they help you, Debbie
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:00:26 PM)
Carol, I understand what you mean!
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:00:46 PM)
It sounds horrible, doesn't it?
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:00:55 PM)
Lynne, that is great.
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 9:01:17 PM)
NOt everyone can teach there own. Don't feel bad about that.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:01:26 PM)
lynne, what phonics program did you use?
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 9:01:41 PM)
I have one (my oldest) that challenges my every nerve.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:02:29 PM)
My oldest is the problem, too. I could teach my youngest anything for any amount of time.
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 9:02:31 PM)
I am using the A Beka. But there is another (not Christian, if that bothers you) It is called the The Writing Road to Reading.
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 9:02:52 PM)
It is the Spalding Method of Phonics.
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 9:03:00 PM)
Lynne, that is encouraging. Savanna appears to be advanced visually and artistically. She can recite alphabet and count to 2O, however, her letters and numbers are a guessing game.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:03:11 PM)
lynne, can you explain a bit about the Spalding Method?
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 9:03:30 PM)
It too is wonderful!! They work on the Phonograms and explain when and why they are used.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:04:12 PM)
Switching gears here a bit but, my 6 year old still mixes up some letters. APD or maturity?
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:04:36 PM)
what letters is she mixing up?
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 9:04:46 PM)
They break down the different phonograms like "ear" and show how in some instances it says the "er sound like in earth, and then it can say the "air" sound in bear.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:05:00 PM)
She's being tested now for speech, her speech is mumbled. Mostly p and q or b and d
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 9:05:16 PM)
or the "ere" sound in dear.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:05:37 PM)
if those are theletters mixed up, i'd say maturity could be part of it....those are commonly confused by kids
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 9:05:53 PM)
maturity. I was told not to worry about it until 3rd grade.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:06:07 PM)
That's what they tell me in school and since it wasn't one of Krystie's problems, I didn't think much about it.
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 9:06:09 PM)
if it happens every once in a while.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:06:24 PM)
I think it always happens
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:06:47 PM)
She seems to really concentrate when those letters are being written or read
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:07:07 PM)
I have to tell you all, my youngest one is in 3rd grade this year, and what a switch from last year for her! She's pulling straight A's right now.! (even in conduct!)
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:07:32 PM)
Also, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are written backwards. That's great , Debbie.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:07:35 PM)
Carol, Kendra use to confuse those letters all the time
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:07:48 PM)
No APD with Kendra, right?
lynne (ID=11) (Sep 25, 2001 9:08:06 PM)
(This user has left DigiChat) (IP = 172.169.215.23)
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:08:14 PM)
no, just never really devoted herself fully before.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:08:27 PM)
It's like I'm holding my breath with Shannen in the first grade wondering what will come of it.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:08:34 PM)
Carol, you met Kendra in Orlando also didnt you?
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:08:43 PM)
Yes, your kids were great
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:09:00 PM)
Krystie still talks about them
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:09:21 PM)
Steve,Did you get any indication from Dr Barber about what areas your daughter is struggling in?
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:09:39 PM)
If you met Kendra, Im sure you can tell she has a mischievious streak!
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:10:06 PM)
She was a great kid, you are funny!
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 9:10:12 PM)
Savanna is struggles with short term working memory.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:10:25 PM)
Krystie did too, but getting better.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:10:31 PM)
What recommendations were made for you?
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:10:52 PM)
She's is a great kid.....just watch for the look in her eye!
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:11:06 PM)
LOL
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 9:11:23 PM)
He really did not recommend anything other than working with her.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:12:22 PM)
One thing we use to do with Sarah as far as working on her memory is the "going on a picnic game"...let me explain.........
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:12:48 PM)
You may be familiar with this already..............................it's a common game..........
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:13:16 PM)
We did a program called "WINGS" it was a thinking game designed for kids 3-7 years old and we concentrated on the memory part of it.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:13:21 PM)
one person starts by saying. ....I"m going on a picnic and Im taking a blanket....
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:13:43 PM)
the next person says...I"m going on a picnic and Im taking a blanket. and a sandwich.........
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:14:04 PM)
Oh yeah, I remember, you have to remember the list of things and it can get pretty long.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:14:08 PM)
then each person adds one item as the game goes on and you see how long of a list you can come up with or remember...........
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:14:23 PM)
it's a fun game but also builds memory...
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:14:36 PM)
That was a game in the Wings program, too
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:14:54 PM)
We use to also play the "Simon game" and "Bop It"
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:14:59 PM)
That game concentration, remember it, was in it too
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:15:33 PM)
Bop it is Great because it involves memory while you are listening to the auditory clues or the sounds....
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:15:55 PM)
Dr Jeananne Ferre recommended the Bop It at a conference of her's I recommended
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:16:00 PM)
oops...attended
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:16:30 PM)
Where was that conference, Debbie?
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:16:52 PM)
that was May 2000 in Charleston, SC
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:17:21 PM)
Nice, wish I knew about it then.
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 9:17:28 PM)
So, if we play these memory games and work with her on memorizing her letters and numbers....she will develop these skills and catch up with the other students?
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:18:11 PM)
I made the letters and numbers games so it wasn't a chore. This is with Shannen though, no APD but still if it were Krystie it would have been a game, too.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:18:12 PM)
These are some things that may help.........talk to dr barber and ask for specific recommendations...
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:19:05 PM)
I agree with Debbie, I sometimes made the stress bad by insisting she learn things that could have been dealt with with different strategies
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:19:11 PM)
Please understand Steve, that Carol and I are both mom's of kids with APD, we can only share what we've done and can not make specific recommendations for your daughter.....
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:19:35 PM)
agreed
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:19:58 PM)
Carol, is right about making learning fun though, each child learns differently, you have to find out what is your child's best learning method and emphasize that.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:20:17 PM)
Is your daughter a "hands on learner" or a "sight learner"..etc....
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:20:58 PM)
It took me a long time to realize it's definitely not auditory. That's why we had so much stress until last year. I'm an auditory learner so figured everyone else was, too.
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 9:21:38 PM)
I think she is hands on, however, I am not sure.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:22:51 PM)
I just learned this past June that Krystie can memorize things just by looking at them. What is that photographic memory? She got 100% correct of putting state names on state maps without studying. The teacher wanted to know how much time we spent on maps when it was very little to none.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:23:29 PM)
Steve, that is one place I'd begin then. spend some time with her, trying to teach her different things. use different teaching methods and see what she resonds to, or ask the teacher to write you a note and let you know if your daughter seems to respond better in any situations in class.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:23:37 PM)
Needless to say, everything she needs to know is written down in her room for her to read
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:24:46 PM)
Debbie, what's Bell's kids?
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:25:45 PM)
Bells' kids is a group sponsored by the Alexander Graham Bell Foundation. It's a mentor program they are working on for kids who are deaf. They requested permission to use the chat for mentor meetings. Dr J is one of their mentors in the DC area

debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:26:37 PM)
wecome back lynne
lynne (ID=13) (Sep 25, 2001 9:26:39 PM)
sorry for the bump off.
lynne (ID=13) (Sep 25, 2001 9:26:46 PM)
What a mess.
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:26:49 PM)
chat gremlins?
lynne (ID=13) (Sep 25, 2001 9:26:54 PM)
Miss anything good?
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:27:29 PM)
just talking about learning what is your child's best learning method...
lynne (ID=13) (Sep 25, 2001 9:28:12 PM)
One thing I did want to say about the A Beka phonics it is very eye appealing to a young one, but the Writing Road to Reading is more appealing to an older child. It is less "babyish"
lynne (ID=13) (Sep 25, 2001 9:28:16 PM)
oh
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:29:41 PM)
Im going to try a different approach to writing with the kids....we are making a "Rainbow Writing box"
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:30:02 PM)
We are using several different color of index cards in a box.............
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:30:28 PM)
each card with represent the different component of a story..such as who, what, when, where, why and how...........................
Steve Z (ID=12) (Sep 25, 2001 9:30:37 PM)
(This user has left DigiChat) (IP = 172.170.29.249)
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:31:03 PM)
when it's writing time, the girls, pull out one card from each color and long with one or two adjectives or adverbs and whatever cards they pull, they use for a story
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:31:33 PM)
That's a great idea.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:31:55 PM)
I'll let you know how it works out! This way they can make up some pretty silly stories
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:31:57 PM)
Debbie, your girls are 3rd and 5th grades?
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:32:02 PM)
yes
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:32:16 PM)
That's great ages for that writing box
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:32:43 PM)
Im hoping we can incorporate their vocabulary words as we go
Carol (ID=10) (Sep 25, 2001 9:33:57 PM)
I have to get to bed, busy now. Sorry to be leaving so early.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:34:08 PM)
the NCAPD is also hoping to sponsor a "Family Reading Fundraiser: coming up soon too..check for details!
lynne (ID=13) (Sep 25, 2001 9:34:18 PM)
sleep well.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:34:22 PM)

i don't know either.
lynne (ID=13) (Sep 25, 2001 9:35:56 PM)
My son likes to write too. But my oldest one hates it.
lynne (ID=13) (Sep 25, 2001 9:36:28 PM)
Greg is a hard worker but Cj is content to just "tell" you his story.
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:36:29 PM)
Sarah has always hated it in the past, but this year, it's her best subject! I want to capitalize on it while she's excited
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:38:08 PM)
NOw if I could just get her excited about reading *L*
debbie (ID=9) (Sep 25, 2001 9:39:08 PM)
Lynne, I hate to run out too, but 3:30 comes too early!
lynne (ID=13) (Sep 25, 2001 9:39:18 PM)
The o ne I h ave to motivate isn't the one with the problems.
lynne (ID=13) (Sep 25, 2001 9:39:22 PM)
you sleep well.
lynne (ID=13) (Sep 25, 2001 9:39:28 PM)
